Plot:
Based on a Thai novel written in the 1960s, "Jan Dara" should be known for more than just the movie in which Christy Chung bared it all.

Summary:
Jan Dara's mother dies giving birth to him. As a result, his father has a deep and abiding hatred for the boy--not to mention an outrageous appetite for sexual congress with the women in the household. So it should not be surprising that Jan Dara has a skewed view of life and begins acting in a similar way upon reaching adolescence.

Cue the entrance of the beguiling and beautiful Christy Chung. She is the latest lover of Jan Dara's father, yet she does not hesitate to get involved with the young Jan Dara as well. Her often-undraped love scenes have drawn the most attention, but it should be noted that the film is primarily a dark and moody meditation on damaged lives.

This is the most erotic mainstream movie out of Thailand, and very controversial as it dealt with many cultural taboos. It passed the censors simply because the leading actress was not a real Thai national. Nevertheless, there are still questions why it passed the ban.

Meanwhile a more recent Thai movie that got banned from screening in Thailand for resisting to cut a scene where a group of doctors are shown having a drinking session in a basement of a building. The censors ruled that showing doctors getting drunk are very bad image. So after watching Jan Dara, you may ask "so having relationship with a father's common law wife" is ok to be shown but not "doctors having a drink."
